a 3d rendering of the year 2013 and the number 2013

It is that time of the year when a lot of us are either encouraged by others or decide ourselves to make New Year Resolutions. Why do we do it and what is that inner prompt that gets us making a list of those things we have judged are bad for us and should cease, as well as a list of those practices that we should embrace in the fond belief that they will change our life for the better?

Usually these lists will consist of things that we consume on a daily basis which our conscience has been nagging at us for some time to cut down on or even stop; whilst others are habits and practices which we have discovered are not doing us any good whatsoever.

Will power has a lot to answer for here and is the crux of the matter! A few decades ago the question many would be asking themselves was “how long will l be able to lay off the cigarettes?” but then vapes were invented. So off we went again on another track which will lead us down another dead end street wherein lies another addiction for another generation.

Over eating at Christmas and the resulting determination to release the pounds as well as the guilt then becomes another challenge for us to grapple with during the cold start to our year. Another resolution is often going on the wagon, cutting down on frivolous shopping and promising ourselves we will save more money.

These are all symptoms of our behaviours that we are trying to control from an external source, which is why very few of us ever succeed totally to achieve our New Year aims and end up a few weeks later (or if we are lucky - a couple of months later) failing miserably to reach our goals; which we will put aside, promising ourselves that we will keep them in mind and take them up again “when we feel stronger”. So what is that strength we are seeking and where can we find it?

One thing is certain we will never be able to find it outside of ourselves, it is something that we can only find and access within ourselves. It stems from that secret part of our WORLD WITHIN. It is where our secret self lies and is the only part of us that we alone have access to and is a part of us that cannot be affected by the temptations, desires, troubles and threats of our outside world.

Our New Year resolutions stem from those desires and temptations that our personal self has identified for us as not being ideal for our physical, mental and emotional bodies. That part of our mind set which is linked into the collective consciousness of our recognised geographical and social group which prompts us to consider this annual task, which for some of us has been built into our psyche over generations and pushes us on an annual basis to consider embarking on this pilgrimage we make towards success or failure?

The generation that occupies our more affluent world now have little excuse to say “we didn’t know it was bad for us”; because we have been educated by scientific discoveries and thoroughly bombarded by the “media” in what is “good for us” and what is “not good for us” and so offers us a choice.

Because we are responsible for ourselves these are personal decisions we make; but for some of us as parents and care-givers we are also responsible for others as well.

We are now at a time in our history when even more serious and more potentially harmful outcomes to things we have been creating in our world are rearing their ugly heads and unless we take their outcomes seriously the decisions we are making now will become even more dangerous for us than those whimsical ones we have made in the past at the turn of each year.

We are in a time of chaos where wrongs are rising up to present us with the consequences. Our world is changing and is moving into a time of cleansing and clearing out of all that is divisive, unfair and unsustainable for us to continue accepting it as the norm.

All change consists of give and take in every respect relating to humanity and the time has come in our history to really consider how our actions will impact others and those generations that will follow us, even though they may not be in our immediate vicinity, but none-the-less will be affected by our choices and decisions whatever they are.

As consumers we are at the bottom of a large pyramid and as investors we are near the top of this structure. In every aspect of our lives, some of us are sometimes winners while others are sometimes losers and vice versa. However, we do not stay in the same positions all the time, but instead move up and down and around as we play different roles and express different needs which we seek to be fulfilled. The things that a person buys and the goods that he throws away all bring about change in his circumstances over the years.

We are all interconnected and as the man in the street earns his wage and pays his tax, his future pension prospects rely upon his Government or private company to invest his taxes into enterprises which will give a good return to enable and sustain his future prosperity and sometimes those investments are unsustainable.

Political decisions and relations with other countries are tainted by deals, commitments and obligations that serve only to benefit certain sections of society.

Exports and imports have become farcical, when we can purchase an item far cheaper from a manufacturer that is located half way around the world rather than from our own country. As we grab an opportunity on one side of the world, a butterfly dies on the other side of the planet. The analogy of the one butterfly may not seem so important but multiply that by the billions of humans wanting food, things, transportation and leisure etc. - you get my point!

But it isn’t just butterflies that are dying, humans are dying too - in wars and upheavals, in climate change, starvation and failing health and all because humanity has not yet awoken fully to the idea that we are all ONE.

We have all heard this a thousand times before and yet we still shrug our shoulders and say what can little old me do about it?

Well for a start you can do a lot about it by choosing to look within yourself and embrace who you really are. Humanity is moving through a new paradigm shift and many people are searching for the real meaning of life. We are moving through a challenging time in history where our problems are soul sized.

We must begin to understand where our real power lies if we want to change our world and that power is not external to us but is within us and we have to learn how to access it. This is why our New Year resolutions should not just be made on a surface level but instead must be drawn from within our very being. Our problems stem from within ourselves so that is the point at which we should heal them.

Shakespeare’s Brutus said “there is a tide in the affairs of men. Which taken at the flood leads on to fortune” and it’s metaphorical expression identified the need for us to avail ourselves of a warning sign and take the opportunity when it was presented to us - such a time is now!

Our whole planet is in peril and ourselves with it, but there is a way to save both. Going to our WORLD WITHIN where we will find our inner being, our secret self, our I Am Presence, the God within will allow us to discover and understand who we really are and the powers that we really have to save ourselves and our planet.

This will not be an easy fix or a quick one but once you have started on the path you will never turn back and any step you take towards awakening to your true self and your true power will never be lost and you will be secure in the knowledge that you have made a difference and a difference (whatever size it may be) is still enough to enable a shift in our consciousness and our world. If you are going to settle on one New Year’s resolution, this could be the ONE you choose to save yourself and the world.
